How to Live?
What is living?
Living is breathing.
You stop living when breathing stops.
Learning to live is learning to breathe.
You can only breathe in the present moment.
You cannot breathe in the past.
You cannot take a future breath in advance.
Every breath happens now.
Life is meant to be lived the same way, one moment at a time.
Our bodies did not evolve to handle time travel.
The mind struggles when it constantly revisits the past or rehearses the future.
When the brain keeps moving along the time dimension, it gets overworked.
The symptoms are familiar:
restless sleep
scattered attention
mediocre work
Ancient wisdom recognised this long before modern science put words to it.
Pranayama in yoga is meditation focused on breathing.
You cannot silence the monkey mind by force.
But you can train it by giving it something simple to follow: the breath.
Breathing is always in the present moment.
It is an ancient cheat code that still works today.
To live fully, learn to breathe well.
Take it easy until next time.
